Reports have surfaced that convicted reggae superstar Buju Banton who is currently serving a 10-year sentence has been transferred from the Florida federal prison. The report further states that he was presently at the Federal Transfer Center (FTC) in Oklahoma City.
When contacted by the media, a spokesperson at the Federal Bureau of Prisons declined to say why Banton was transferred or where he was being transferred to. The spokesperson told journalists when quizzed about the move. “As a matter of policy, we don’t discuss that.”
Buju real name Mark Myrie is currently serving a 10 year sentence after he was convicted on drug charges stemming from an attempted drug deal in 2009. Earlier this year a Florida judge dismissed his appeal for a new trial. The entertainer has served notice that he will continue to fight to overturn the conviction.
Myrie’s sentence began in December 2009 and his projected release date is March 2019 according to the Bureau of Prison’s website.
