The fourth annual Caribbean Style and Culture Fashion Awards and Showcase will be held this Friday June 28 2013 beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Marriot Inn and Conference Center in Hyattsville, MD. It is being hosted by Karib Nation, Inc.
The event which is held yearly commemorates Caribbean-American Heritage Month. A VIP reception is also slated for June 26 at the Embassy of Barbados which features ambassadors from CARICOM as specially invited guests.
On the runway will be internationally acclaimed artistes and fashion industry leaders from the Caribbean with a special guest appearance from Miss Black USA, Selina Watkins.
Also on the show are twelve talented designers who will present their fashion pieces. The designers incude Patricia Coates from Guyana, Kimya Glasgow from St. Vincent, Glenroy March representing Jamaica and Sharon Cox Cole, Shaun Griffith Perez and Lu-Ann Skaggs for Trinidad and Tobago among others. Celebrity make-up artist Maisie Dunbar will also be on hand to transform the models.
The Hosts Karib Nation will be presenting awards of recognition for the contribution and development of the Caribbean fashion industry at this year’s show. Recipients of this year’s “Award Of Excellence” are designers Shaun – Griffiths Perez, Andrew Harris, Michel Chataigne, Sharon Cox-Cole, Kimya Glasgow and 5th Element. The annual show highlights the Caribbean region premier exhibits of fashion, art and music and epitomizes the regions vibrant colors, versatility and fabric which are influenced by the culture and diversity of the area.
Karib Nation was founded in 1992 in Maryland and is a non-profit organization. Its aim is to promote social and economic prosperity while encouraging the culture of the English, French, Spanish and Dutch-speaking Caribbean community in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
