In the midst of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Gala frenzy, First Lady Michelle Obama came to take a moment to honor her good friend and Vogue editor, Anna Wintour.
“Now, I know Anna hates being the center of attention,” Obama said, wearing an embroidered Naeem Khan dress. “So this is all probably killing her, but we love it. But the truth is, I’m here today because of Anna. I’m here because I have such admiration and respect for this woman who I’m proud to call my friend. I’m here because I’m so impressed by Anna’s contributions, not just to the fashion industry but also to this great museum.”
Wintour seemed incredibly humbled by the gesture of renaming the MET’s Costume Center, the Anna Wintour Costume Center. In the room were her fashion contemporaries that included designers Oscar de la Renta, Ralph Lauren, Donatella Versace, Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, Raf Simons and Carolina Herrera– to name a few.
In addition to cutting the ribbon on the new building, attendees gave soundbites on why they love Wintour and her influence on modern fashion. It was the perfect beginning to a glamour-filled day
