Murray beats Simon to put Britain in Davis Cup semifinals

Andy Murray came from a set down to beat France’s Gilles Simon 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-3, 6-0 on Sunday and put Britain into the Davis Cup semifinals for the first time in 34 years.

Murray, who won his opening singles on Friday and then teamed up with his brother Jamie to win Saturday’s doubles, gave Britain an unassailable 3-1 lead in the best-of-five series on grass at the Queen’s Club.

Britain’s first World Group semifinal since 1981 will be against Australia on Sept. 18-20.

James Ward was due to play France’s Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in Sunday’s final match.
