Nintendo President Satoru Iwata dies at 55


Satoru Iwata, the president of Nintendo, has died. He was 55.

Nintendo confirmed his passing today in a brief statement.

“Nintendo Co., Ltd. deeply regrets to announce that President Satoru Iwata passed away on July 11, 2015 due to a bile duct growth.”

Iwata was the fourth president of Nintendo and helped create some of Nintendo’s most famous games such as ‘Kirby’s Dream Land’. He also worked on ‘The Legend of Zelda’, ‘Mario’ and the ‘Animal Crossing’ series.

He was also the first president who was unrelated to the Yamauchi family through blood or marriage.

It was revealed that Iwata was ill after it was announced that he would not be present at the E3 conference due to medical related reasons as he was undergoing surgery for a tumor in the bile duct.
