Racism in the music industry? VMAs cause Swift and Minaj to go at it on Twitter

It’s just mid-week and Twitter is starting to heat up.

Things on the popular social media website got real heated when popular hip-hop artiste, Nicki Minaj, took to Twitter, venting her frustrations of not securing a VMA nomination fo her single, Anaconda.

“If I was a different “kind” of artist, Anaconda would be nominated for best choreo and vid of the year as well,” tweeted Minaj

“Ellen did her own anaconda video and did the #choreo lol. Remember her doing that kick[Sad Face]. Even mtv did a post on the choreo @MTV remember?”added Minaj on Twitter.

However, Minaj ruffled some feathers on Twitter when she tweeted,” When the “other” girls drop a video that breaks records and impacts culture they get that nomination”.

Though, Minaj, didn’t directly name any names in reference to her “other girl comment”, Taylor Swift decided to take the cue.

That’s when the “other girls”, yes she is more than one girl, Taylor Swift joined the conversation.

Shots were fired.

Swift, who is up for an impressive nine awards this year, used Twitter to tell her fellow musician that  she shouldn’t pit women against each other.

“I’ve done nothing but love & support you. It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot,” tweeted Swift.

A clearly puzzled Minaj responded by tweeting, “Huh? U must not be reading my tweets. Didn’t say a word about u. I love u just as much. But u should speak on this.”
Many fans of Minaj weighed in on the conversation, stating that Swift had clearly missed the point that Minaj wasn’t throwing at Swift but was instead highlighting the double-standards, and racism that still exist in the Music Industry.

Now it is your time to weigh in, what do you think
