Rihanna censored by Instagram for topless and bottomless photos

Barbadian superstar Rihanna appears to be short of a few clothes again, with the shortage so acute in one instance that all she could muster were sunglasses and a pair of high heel shoes.

The “Diamonds” girl has stripped down to the bare essentials for the camera twice in recent months; first for Vogue Brazil and, more recently, for the French magazine LUI. The resulting photo spreads leave little doubt as to why her rumoured boyfriend Drake referred to the singer as the “ultimate fantasy.”

But while the Rihanna-in-the-raw photographs continue to be a big hit with fans, not everyone shared their enthusiasm.

According to celebrity website TMZ, when the “Monster” singer posted a selection of the images on her Instagram account on Tuesday, the social networking site removed them because the pictures flew in the face of their nudity rules.

The Bajan pop princess had posted the uncensored topless (and bottomless) pictures from her Lui shoot, which Instagram said was a violation of their terms of service.

The Grammy award-winning singer shared a picture of herself topless on the cover of Lui, in which she sported only a teeny-weeny bikini bottom and a hat.

Nudity, partial nudity or sexually suggestive photographs are nevertheless banned on Instagram and the social media platform suspended her account until the offending photo was removed.

As Instagram’s community guidelines state: “If you wouldn’t show the photo or video you are thinking about uploading to a child, or your boss, or your parents, you probably shouldn’t share it on Instagram. The same rule applies to your profile photo.

“Accounts found sharing nudity or mature content will be disabled and your access to Instagram may be discontinued.”

No problem for the “Good Girl Gone Bad,” who simply posted the pictures to her Twitter account, following up with a doctored photo depicting a matronly image of herself captioned: “Rih’s next magazine cover if it was up to Instagram.”

So what caused all the fuss?

In what has been referred to as her raciest photoshoot yet, Rihanna proudly bared her famous booty for all the world to see. In one of the revealing shots she is pictured lying on her stomach beside a swimming pool, with no attempt, photographic or otherwise, to conceal her naked backside. In another, she wears a skimpy lace black G-string as she poses on the edge of a diving board.

Such provocative pictures are nothing new to Lui, which is known for featuring “the naked truth” about celebrities. Supermodel Kate Moss, with whom Rihanna did a joint photoshoot last year, appeared nude in the magazine in March.

Prior to the Lui shoot, Rihanna posed for Vogue Brazil and appears topless in its May issue.

The sultry images were shot in Ilha Grande beach, Rio de Janeiro, and include shots of Rihanna naked on the beach, apart from a hat and bikini bottom. The photograph reveals the tattoo of Isis which spreads across her ribcage and is a tribute to her grandmother Dolly who died in 2012.

Other images show the “Stay” star wearing just an open jacket and black panties, as well as totally topless in retro high-waisted knickers.

The “Talk That Talk” singer was on location in Rio de Janeiro in January for the magazine’s 39th anniversary special.

The 26-year-old star is twice as nice in two cover shots: one in which she is pictured in a barely-there plunging metallic Gucci dress with a revealing side split, the other in which she is discreetly topless.
