Retired NBA great Shaquille O’Neal and Reebok are teaming up for a re-launch of his sneakers. It was revealed during a press conference at PROJECT Las Vegas on Thursday.
Following a successful stint in the 90’s that helped to dispel the notion that a big man could not sell sneakers, Reebok Shaq Attaq and the Reebok Shaqnosis will be returning to retail stores later this year.
The reunion is part of Reebok’s effort to return to prominence. Using its Classics platform as the launching pad, the brand has brought back many of their famous silhouettes from the 90’s including Allen Iverson‘s Reebok Questions, Emmitt Smith‘s Reebok ES22 and Shawn Kemp‘s Reebok Kamikaze II.
Reebok is hoping to solidify their spot in the retro market with O’Neal’s return. They are hoping to build enough awareness for Reebok and take the brand into a different direction with their current product.
Apart from the Shaq Attaq and Shaqnosis, on display were new collaborations with the Jean-Michel Basquiat estate, new color ways of the Reebok Pump Twilight Zone, the Reebok Kamikaze II, an all-white Classics collection, which includes the Reebok Question Low and their signature T-Raww shoe with the rapper Tyga.
The highly anticipated Reebok Classic Shaq Attaq from 1992 will drop on April 19th from $160 at key retailers across the USA. The Reebok Classic Shaqnosis which made its debut in 1995 will be re-released on July 19th retailing for $125.
