State approves land deal for mega-mall in northwest Miami-Dade County

Florida approves $12.3 million land sale for American Dream Miami

Gov. Rick Scott and members of his cabinet unanimously approved a land deal that will bring the nation’s largest mall to northwest Miami-Dade County, The Miami Herald reports.

The state of Florida will sell 82 acres of state-owned land to Miami-Dade County for $12.3 million. The county will then sell the land for the same price to the American Dream Miami mall’s developer, Triple Five.

Triple Five’s Eskandar Ghermezian, developer of the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota, plans to build a 4 million-square-foot complex with stores and attractions, including a snow ski slope. He has already assembled a patchwork of 120 privately held acres, which now includes the state-owned property.

The $4 billion project will include several amusement parks as well as hotels and condos on 200 acres  tucked into a triangular area bounded roughly by Interstate 75, Florida’s Turnpike and Northwest 170th Street.
