Stephen Marley recently premiered his new song entitled “Bongo Nyah,” featuring his brother, Damian Marley, and Spragga Benz. The song however, does not sound like the usual reggae music fans are accustomed to. Keeping true to its title, the song has a “gangster reggae” feel to it.
The term “bongo nyah,” was first heard on a song with the same title during the 1970’s. The creator of that song was Little Roy. The expression Bongo Nyah is used to describe a Rasta guy who is also considered a “gangster” guy.
The song has a killer beat to accompany the lyrics that pulls the listener in. Reggae music is known for its calming smooth melodies and lyrics, but this song has a cooler vibe to it. This new vibe will help the song appeal to a wider audience than just reggae enthusiasts.
In the past, Stephen has teamed up with his brother and other siblings to create, write, produce and perform great music. The song is set to appear on Stephen’s album Revelation Part II: The Fruit of Life, due out in the fall.
