Have you ever considered taking a weekend trip where you can just un-wind and have some fun? Or perhaps to just do nothing in an idyllic setting. Catalina Island might be just the place for you. Also known as the Santa Catalina Island, Catalina Island is an island of Southern California 22 miles south-southwest of Los Angeles.
Catalina Island is a part of the eight Chanel Islands archipelago. It is one of the only islands with a significant permanent civilian settlement. The island is 21 miles and approximately 76 square miles. Highest elevations are Mt. Orizaba and Mount Black Jack. The weather is fairly good all year round with temperatures as high as 73 degrees in the summer and low as 54 degrees during the winter months.
There are two boat companies which provide scheduled services to Catalina with departures from San Pedro, Long Beach, Dana Point and Newport Beach. There are also helicopter services which can get you to the island in as little at 15 minutes from the mainland.
So the next time you are in the mood for a weekend vacation, head to the Catalina Islands you won’t regret it.
